Common Underground - A social exchange project

Common Underground is a design project that studies social issues and reports both sides of the story. Designers from around the world are asked to create posters depicting the correlation between the U.S. and a word which is considered taboo in this country (War, arrogance, etc...). We also ask U.S. based designers to do the same towards another country. This is the study of such unspoken subject matter. A book and an exhibition will be held in Miami Fl of all the posters. A visual exchange for all. Check it out and submit a poster! Common Underground

new ROJO website

The uncertainty is one of the most powerful mechanisms of ROJO. We do not want to refer here to the intrinsic quality of the artistic creation of not being capable of giving a convincing definition on itself, but to the capacity of the work of printed art to recall in its spectator a multitude of questions, many more of those that its own creator supposed.

It is a mechanism that allows ROJO to spread a sensation that at the same time turns out to be vague, blurry and worrying. Any publishing practice has implicit this consideration: few ones are those who do not understand ROJO as a communication act, a flow among two subjects. It is not necessary to clarify that both, magazine and spectator, are equally ...

Let’s Talk, Todd St. John

In much of his work, designer Todd St. John indulges his fascination with the tension between the manmade and so-called natural worlds. And whether expressed in 3-D animation, typographic design, or illustration, this fascination has informed his work for nearly two decades. In 1994, St. John founded Green Lady with longtime collaborator Gary Benzel, an endeavor that laid the groundwork for viewing the t-shirt as art. Then, in 2000, he struck out on his own and founded HunterGatherer, a production studio that has become well-known for its boundary pushing approach to design, illustration, and video projects. I recently had the chance to talk with St. John about his work.

You've been working in the art and design world for nearly two decades. You founded Green ...

Echo by United Visual Artists

In collaboration with the dance group Mimbre, Echo, was performed in the monumental setting of Como’s Teatro Sociale in Italy. This work was originally commissioned by Vamp for the Tate Modern’s turbine hall. Using advanced 3-D cameras to capture the physicality of the dancers movement, this was then translated in real time to a monumental backdrop creating a simultaneous performance. Echo will be touring internationally in 2009.

The New Beatport Microsite / Store

FOR BETTER QUALITY ( this version's a little screwy ) VIEW HD

For the better part of a year I've been working with Beatport to completely redo their website from the ground up. After what seemed like hundreds of designs / meetings / long nights, the whole thing finally came to fruition. Midway through development I created a promotional video ( seen above ) and website for the The New Beatport Microsite. We switched from Flash to Flex for the new store and there were a lot of learning curves, but for the most part I am pretty happy with how everything turned out. Sorry to self promote but wanted to share some of the hard work.
